Skills Bootcamps

Skills Bootcamps are free, flexible courses designed to help Londoners aged 19+ to:

  • Start a new career
  • Gain new skills to progress at work
  • Change direction and explore new opportunities
  • Guaranteed job interview upon completion of the course 

Developed by training providers in partnership with employers, these courses:

  • Typically, last up to 16 weeks
  • Are open to adults who are employed (full-time or part-time), self-employed, unemployed, or returning to work after a break
  • Focus on roles that pay at least the London Living Wage

Skills Bootcamps are free for eligible Londoners or Co-Funded for Employers looking to upskill staff.

Skills Bootcamps are part of the Mayor’s commitment to support Londoners to enter, progress, and thrive in work.

Earn a Level 2 Certificate in Health and Social Care (HSC) in just 16 weeks.

Course Structure

  • 12 weeks (15 hours per week): Focused training to achieve the qualification
  • 4 weeks: Employability and wrap‑around support (e.g. CV writing, interview prep etc)

Delivery Format
Hybrid – mix of in-person and online (the majority of learning will take place in-person, however the number of in-person hours may vary)

Delivery Location
Delivery will take place in one of our dedicated delivery sites across London. Exact delivery location to be confirmed.

All delivery locations are fully accessible, and any additional learning support needs will be addressed on an individual basis.

Core Units

  1. Equality, diversity and rights in HSC
  2. Human growth and development through the lifespan
  3. Roles and responsibilities of HSC practitioners including safeguarding
 
Where Next
Once you complete the course, you’ll be guaranteed a job interview. If you’re self-employed, you’ll be able to use the training to seek new opportunities for your business. If you’re being supported by your current employer to complete the Skills Bootcamp, then you’ll be offered a new role of new responsibilities.

This course equips you with practical skills to:

  • Respect individuals’ rights, dignity and choices
  • Understand confidentiality and safeguarding principles
  • Understand physical, emotional, social and environmental factors in human development
  • Communicate effectively (verbal, non‑verbal, active listening, empathy)
  • Support people to live healthy lifestyles

You will also benefit from comprehensive employability support, developing transferable skills such as:

  • Communication
  • Teamwork
  • Problem‑solving

These skills are essential for thriving in a Health & Social Care environment.

Our Bootcamp has been shaped by input from local employers. The chosen units directly reflect the needs of Health & Social Care providers in London, ensuring your training is relevant and valued in the workplace.

  • Age requirement: 19+ 
  • Residency: Must live in London
  • Employment status: Open to employed, self-employed, unemployed, or returning to work
  • Have the right to work in the UK
  • Not currently in full-time education
  • No prior qualifications or experience required

This programme is funded by the Mayor of London and the Department for Education (Skills for Life campaign).
